The FDC – A Beautiful History of Service
Faribault Diversity Coalition is organized to promote inclusive civic engagement where all are welcome and respected, and to work with new residents to mentor them in the life skills needed to become active and integrated participants in the Faribault community.
The purpose of the FDC is to promote and enhance cross cultural communications so that Faribault residents have the opportunity to come together and learn from one another.;
The Faribault Diversity Coalition started in 1995 to help greet new residents, celebrate diversity, and most importantly, “promote an inclusive community where all is welcomed and respected.” The original FDC closed its doors in 2010. At the same time, Somali refugees started settling in larger numbers into Faribault. In order to help the new refugees, the Somali Community Service (SCS) came into operation. The current FDC grew out of the SCS. Despite changes through the years, the mission of the FDC remains the same. The volunteers and volunteer board members are committed to creating and sustaining a community where all can come together - to support each other, learn from one another and grow together.
